My name is Yiyan. I am a native of Shanghai China. When I was a child, my parents discovered the joy of photography. I grew up with many weekends of going to the park or nearby towns for photo opportunities.

I also want to thank two people who really shaped my inclination in this hobby.

My second youngest uncle from my father's side worked in a photo studio in Shanghai. When I was growing up, he's still very much a single, young man. He used to come to play with me and take pictures. As a child, I associated photography with happiness and lots of fun.

The second person is my father's best friend - Mr. Chen. He's a man with many interests-- photography, pets, watches, hunting. Visiting Mr. Chen's home for a child was such a treat. I still remembered vividly that one day, we were sitting at his livingroom. He showed us a 8 X 10 black and white photo, it has some lines on it and many little dots on the lines. He asked us to guess what was the picture about. Nobody could guess correctly. At the end he told us that it was a picture of sparrows perching on some power lines.

Thinking back, now people may have no trouble of guessing such an image, given the abundance of art available to the general public. At that time, for a simple minded Chinese child, that was mind blowing. Mr. Chen definitely initated my interest in many things, in particular the love for photography.

Now as a grown adult, I've been preoccupied with my daily activities. The student leisure of spending hours in the darkroom developing one satisfying image has been replaced with hours of sitting in front of a computer trying to create a presentable collection to the world wide web.
Nevertheless, I still manage to use a Panassonics Lumix DMC-LC1 to take pictures frequently. Here is my centralized depository for my images and for you to enjoy.
